I’m interested in history in some ways. It’s worth it to understand better what’s going on nowadays and how it will be in the future. Rarely does history turn the wrong way. This is more like an exception, but it makes sense to pay attention to it as well, perhaps there will be an opportunity to prevent an undesirable result. Found in my notes. It took me a while to understand, what is it about. Then I realized it’s from the folder “German language” — the way how do I learn words. When I’m not lazy, I translate a new word, then make a card in the App (there are tons of it, I use Flashcards, just used to it but they do no updates since 2018).
The principle of cards is very simple. Here is written a word with its translation, one part is closed (or is written on the backside) and you have to decide, how well do you know it. If very good, then put it to the box “Easy” and repeat this word in 5 days, if you made a mistake, then it goes to the box “Good” and it better to come back to it in 3 days. If you don’t remember it at all, then it’s “Bad”, repeat it today or tomorrow. I described it quite a simple way the logic is a bit deeper. You don’t have to repeat all the cards, someday a card from “Easy” goes to “Master” — an archive.
On screenshots below is shown how it looks in Flashcards. I like that I can download desks from other users, share mine, draw and add a picture to the card. Spent roughly 5 years in this app. But the main thing is systematic.
Foreign language has two rabbits — words and grammar and to kill them with one stone, we can put them side by side and tie up.
By making simple sentences with new words, you try to use them in a real case instead of a vacuum. The text shouldn’t have a deep sense as you see from my example. Just put it in a different situation. I’m wondering, will it be in the future a neural to generate them or some already exist?
By the way, these words I took more often from Duolingo. In two months after I finished this desk, I came back to it and realized that these words I remember much better that the others.
So, here is the plan:
- Duolingo (1–3 repeats)
- Flashcards (1–2 months)
- Sentences/Text translation (2 weeks after cards)
- Relax (2–3 months)
- Repeat cards
One small step to improve the organization always leads to good results.
